Sydney Anderson passed away peacefully at Dallas County Hospital, Perry, IA on Sunday, June 14, 2020 at the age of 85. Sydney was born in Brechin, Scotland on March 31, 1935. The seventh child of Edgar Wood and Jane Kydd (Meek) Anderson. After serving his country in the Royal Air Force, Sydney became a Painter and Decorator, and immigrated to America in 1962. He lived in Utica, NY for 43 years until 2005 when he moved to Perry, IA to be near his sister. Sydney was an accomplished Painter and Decorator and was employed as a Painting Supervisor with the state of New York at the Utica Psychiatric Hospital. After moving to Perry, Syd was well known as an enthusiastic volunteer at Dallas County Hospital until he was no longer able to carry out his duties. He had been a resident at the Rowley Masonic Community for the past three years. Sydney was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Brandon, Fred, and David and four sisters, Elizabeth, Agnes, Edith and Margaret. Sydney is survived by, his sister, Jennifer (Ronald) Milne of Perry, IA and his daughters, Ruth Longmuir and Shona Murray, both of Brechin, Scotland; four grandchildren, Jamie, Carrie Ann, Lisa, Lori and five great grandchildren. Sydney’s wishes were to be cremated and his ashes to be sent back to Brechin, Scotland. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
