Velma Bailey, 94, of Bouton, IA
Memorial services for Velma M. Bailey will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 22, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Bouton, IA. Private family burial will be in Peoples Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church. Velma passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at the Perry Lutheran Home.
Velma M. Meier was born November 23, 1923 the daughter of Chris and Gertrude (Crossman) Meier. She was born on the Meier homestead in rural Bouton, and was a life time resident of the Bouton area.
Velma married Kenneth Bailey on August 6, 1949. She was happy to be a farm wife and loved living on the farm. She enjoyed being near her family and her grandchildren were her greatest joy. She was always ready for an adventure with her “best friends club” to spend time laughing and relaxing.
Velma was employed at First National Bank in Perry, later known as Brenton Bank. She was the first female teller at the bank. Prior to being hired, all bank employees were male. In Velma’s own words “all men – a real challenge!”
Christ Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed, was a very important part of her life. A life time member, she taught Sunday school for many years and held many positions in the LWML at the church. She also volunteered at the Woodward State Hospital School. Survivors include her son Terry (Jonna) Bailey of Ely, MN, daughter Deb Miller of Ogden, IA; three grandchildren Ian (Amy) Miller of Kildeer, IL, Heath (Kelly) Miller of Lakeville, MN, Rochelle Jermier of Norwalk, IA; six great grandchildren Lincoln Miller, Gus Miller, Bryce Miller, Allison Miller, Tristan Jermier and Miles Rose. Preceding Velma in death were her parents, husband, infant son, two sisters June Seaman and Fern Brelsford and son-in-law Dan Miller.
Memorials, in Velma’s name, may be sent to Murdock Funeral Home, Perry, IA. Online condolences may be left at murdockfuneralhome.net
